Joyful Moments Birth was founded several years ago when I was searching for a name for my birth business. I believe that every birthing person should have an empowering, birthing experience, whenever possible, and that even in life's darkest or most fear-filled times, we can look back and find joy in the experiences. Sometimes that joy is bittersweet or hard to find, but it is there, and I aim to help parents find empowerment and joy in birth.

I trained as a Doula through a DONA International approved training course in May 2012, and again in May 2018.  I am certified as a Birth Doula with DONA International, a Birth and Bereavement Doula with Stillbirthday, and I am also a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator, as well as a trained Hypnobabies Childbirth Hypno Doula.

My passion for birth was ignited in 2009 when I was present during my older sisters labor with my nephew. At that time I wasn't in a position to pursue further birth education, but a move to Manitoba in 2012 allowed for me to start training as a doula.

Since taking the course in 2012 I have been a doula during many births of all kinds - all natural, drug-free births, epidural and medicated births, births that started naturally and those that were induced; short labors  and marathons, high and low risk. Vbacs, and those that have ended with a caesarean birth. Each birth was a special, joyful moment that I felt privileged to be a part of. I have had the privilege of working with many wonderful doulas in Manitoba, and am excited to start building relationships with birth workers in Ontario.

In the 8 years since starting work in the birth world, I have birthed three of my own children. I was able to achieve my goal of an all natural birth with a midwife and my partner present for the birth of my son, and a midwife and a doula for the birth of my daughter, as my spouse was deployed at that time. And our third child was born at home. We had a midwife, but he came just before she got to our house! These three very different birth experiences of my own allow me to provide even better support and empathy to clients!

Recently, a move to Kingston, Ontario has opened a whole new region of opportunities in birth work for me to explore, and I look forward to serving the families of Kingston & area!
